I have always enjoyed photographing around the ocean's inter-tidal zone especially when the tide is on its way out, I find that there is a whole new world revealed when the water has receded, I think its an interesting part of our earth, not really permanent land nor is it permanently under water. In this particular photograph taken at Taylor Beach in Metchosin on Vancouver Island I was at the beach late in the afternoon this past November, the tide didn't really start to make much progress in terms of water levels lowering until late in the afternoon, near the end of our short fall/winter days in this part of the world. I was really amazed by this large smooth rock that had been worn down by the smaller round rocks, I can only imagine how long that would have taken.

A Rock among Rocks

wonderful distribution of patterns and shapes. especially the wet rocks in the foreground nicely add to a second-view complexity

I really enjoy the contrast of the smaller rocks with the large one. To me, this image speaks of the effects of time. Great tones and patterns and a beautiful photo. I have only had the opportunity once to photograph a tide pool in Oregon...it was great!
