Marin Kentfield 2, A Bike For Everyday Riding

I'm a photographer and the pictures on this blog are the result of my work, but sometimes I deviate a little bit with things that I post here. I also like to ride a bike and use it to carry my camera equipment around, so after much research in the summer of 2022, I bought this Marin Kentfield 2 bike.

I bought the Marin bike from Chainline Cycle in Kelowna, B.C., Canada, they are good to deal with and have great bike service.  I'm a recreational cyclist and my bike came stock without any fenders, racks, or lights. It's a 10-speed with a big cassette with all the gears on the rear wheel and a single sprocket up front on the pedal crank, I like the simplicity of having one gear shifter, and the lowest gear has plenty of hill-climbing power. Despite that it doesn't have front shocks, it rides very nicely on smooth pavement and hard-packed gravel pathways and it feels well balanced. It has good braking for those hilly environments. For all the technical details click on the link at the end of this post.

I added a number of upgrades to my bike everything from fenders to a leather saddle to a dynamo lighting system. All those extras adds some weight to the bike, loaded down with the bags and tool kits, my bike weighs 17.23 kg (38 lbs).

Here is the list of items that I added:

  • Ergon GP1-S grips.
  • Axiom Roadrunner AR-Trekk front and rear fenders.
  • Axiom Streamliner Disc DLX rear rack.
  • Blackburn Local Plus Top Tube bag and Blackburn rear trunk bag.
  • Bag under the seat is a MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-Op) is a handle bar bag.
  • Also a small leather bag under the rear seat holds a cable lock.
  • Brooks B17 Standard saddle.
  • TRP Spyre FM mechanical disc brake calipers
  • SP PD-8 dynamo hub.
  • Busch+Miller IQ-XS front light.
  • Busch+Miller 2C rear light.
  • Little chrome  round mirror (looks vintage but is new) was from Amazon.

So there you have it a good, fun, and healthy bike to ride around town or gravel rail trails if they exist in your area. Also please check out my website and social media links, thank you.
