Blurred Water

This is an image I made back in October of 1987 of Johnston Canyon in Banff National Park on day when it was quite overcast and cold, winter was already setting in, as ice was starting to form around the edges of the water fall. I was shooting with my trusty view camera with T-Max 100 iso film which required quite a long exposure with the end result creating the white patch of blurred water at the bottom of the pool.

Almost like a satellite picture of somewhere on Earth. Interesting. Dark. Alien. I like the white effect at the bottom of the waterfall. Good one, Gary!

It was my inability to get final results as beautiful as that which pushed me away from large format. Beautiful!

Beautiful image. One of the neat things is that I find that when I look at an older image of mine it is almost like you can feel like you are right back at the place. Some of my shots I can almost remember exactly where it was I was standing. So does the shot bring you right back there to 1987?

Howard, Yes in most cases I can recall every little detail, where I was standing, what the light was like, even how warm or cold it was, my photographs are quite literally a personal image dairy.
