Impressionistic Sandstone

Here is another image of the varied and beautifully sculpted sandstone around the base of Hornby Island. The image was made with my 4 x 5 view camera and a 120 mm lens.

Gary,

These last two sandstones tonal-sculptures are exquisite! I can only guess (and drool over) what the prints must look like ;-) Absolutely wonderful shots.

Especially when you consider how Gary makes his prints -- scanning in the negs and outputting them on a spiffy printer.
Every pixel of tone, gently cared and babied for! I just spent an afternoon in the darkroom, doing old fashioned silver/paper printing and I love it...but you'd be hard pressed to match what a knowledgeable pair of eyes and hands can do digitally.

Thanks for the comments guys, I can hardly wait to go back there, other Islandson B.C.'s westcoast have sandstone too, but Hornby Island is special, as for printing there are many interpretations and those posted images look nothing like what was really there !
