The Misty Westcoast

The westcoast of British Columbia is one of my favourite places to make pictures, even on days when it is looking rainy and wet . On this particular day in early January of this year I was out photographing along the northern extension of the Juan de Fuca marine trail at Botanical beach near Port Renfrew, the weather was a mixture of rain, clouds and even a little sun, a perfect day for dramatic picture making. In the spring, summer and early fall Botanical beach has many natural treasures to reveal at low tide with dozens of pools of water teeming with ocean life, always an adventure to explore. The image posted was made with my 4 x 5 Tachihara view camera and a 120 mm lens.

This sort of 'treasure' I can take. It adds to the image and there seems an extra richness in tone of the dead tree root. How come you get so much flotsam on the beaches in your area of the world -- rough storms, weather usually...?

Hi again! Decided to visit your website just now as hadn't been there for a while and was pleasantly surprised to see you have updated the images. I only looked through a few of the landscapes. Some of them are very beautiful. All of them are well crafted. You really capture the light, the detail that makes those images come alive! I can see why you like to live in such rugged and breathtakingly beautiful country; great for a solitary like me! Will visit again soon to look at some more...

Janina,

- Yes my area of the world seems to get its share of flotsam that lands up on the beach, although I live in Central BC but visit the coast often . I suspect that the Pacific ocean currents and direction and storms seems to pick up more stuff compared to the Canada's east coast which I have visited.

- Thanks for checking out my website, I try to update its two or three times a year, there are a number of different categories to check out. The website though is a more time consuming job in terms of updating, unlike the blog which can be updated in a snap, it motivates me to get my older work and newer work scanned so it can be posted and featured here with a few words.
