Big Sky, Little Land

Here is another picture I made of the White Lake area back in August of this year, there were tons of beautiful clouds around that made for some memorable pictures.

Beautiful Barren Lands

British Columbia, Canada's most western province is a varied topography, in terms of the lay of the land, it features stunning high mountain peaks to the blue Pacific ocean. I love living here and I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to make photographs which is my expression of art. One of the places I like to escape to on my days off is the White Lake area, south of Penticton, about a one hour drive from my home. At first glance it's a rather desolate barren kind of landscape, with only a few trees scattered here and there amongst the sage brush. The smell of the sage and the feeling of openness is so captivating which refreshes the soul, when hiking in this area from the higher elevations I can gaze upon the open spaces as the sky meets the land and fuses into one, with it's varied moods, its not that big of an area, only a few square kilometres but for me I can dream big.

I will likely post a few more images from this area, this one posted was made on an outing back In August of this year, the clouds were beautiful, I shot 30 sheets of film that day and could have shot twice that many.

Cabin Portrait

I don't do a lot of portraits with my view camera, I tend to go through a lot more film than say if I was shooting a landscape scene, but the quality is very good when all the elements come together. This is Ken who I met and photographed in Whistler, BC, the image was made with my lovely Ebony 4 x 5 view camera, 120mm lens and Ilford HP5 film, which was developed in Kodak Xtol.

Big Country in a Small Setting

This is a picture from around the White Lake area near Penticton, BC, Canada, its a lovely area, one drives along a twisty road and then it opens out in this bowl like area in which you are surrounded by rolling hills and low mountains. I love the open space of the area, even though its not really that big, one aspect I really enjoy is on days when big cumulus clouds are rolling around, the sun when blocked by the clouds creates these wonderful shadows on the hillsides. The posted image was made with my 4 x 5 Ebony view camera and a 120mm lens.
