Mountains of Mist

Here is an image I made near Stanley Glacier in Kootenay National Park, the day started out with a mix of sun and clouds, but by the time I started photographing a rain storm moved in, and I was able to capture this image of misty clouds amongst the mountains. The image was made with my 4 x 5 view camera and a 270mm lens.

Another Kind of Beauty

Summer is almost over and soon there will be scenes like this one in the coming fall and winter, but I love scenes like this, cold and stark, but earthly beautiful. I made this image while travelling back from Vancouver in February of this year, I had taken the longer route along Highway 3 back to Kelowna, the Hope Princeton Highway. I thought this was such a unique scene with the descending snow storm in the mountains behind and the broken Sunflower plant once tall and reaching for the sun, if one were to take the seeds from the plant head, then the seeds a new plant would grow which would reach for the sun on yet another summer day.

Getting Side Tracked

There is always lots of interesting talk about whether photography is art, and I think that some images and photographers are absolutely in this category. I think that creating art is about making something that never existed before, if I see any subject that interests me whether it be a, tree, rock, water, the sky, people, an old building , what ever, I think to myself, "That's beautiful or strange or even ugly, I would like to make a picture of it ." What I find interesting is how many times when I Ieast expect it I start out making a picture of something and have this clear idea of what I think would make a great print, but somewhere along the line I get side tracked, as another subject in the same vicinity calls out to me to be photographed , sometimes these "other" images often turn out to be some my most interesting images from that particular day of shooting.

This image of Kinney Lake on the trail to Berg Lake in Mount Robson Provincial Park "found" me so took the image with my 4 x 5 view camera and a 120mm lens.

A visit to Quadra Island

This is Quadra Island, just off of Vancouver Island, at Comox, one can also take a ferry to Cortes Island from Quadra. These are great little islands to explore and photograph. Image was made with a 4 x 5 Tachihara view camera and a 120mm lens. Thanks for looking at my work.
